Who will land the coveted state title in 4A now that Cathedral has moved up to 5A.

Highland (4-5) at Hammond Gavit (2-7) KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: There are two marquee matchups in week one. ECC at Morton- The Governors beat the Cardinals 19-6 in week 6. Can the Cardinals behind Martayveus Carter (515 yards rushing 101 tackles), Anthony Hunt (737 yards rushing), Patrick Shaw 9135 tackles) and Trequan Burnett (19 receptions 429 yards and 7 touchdowns) get it going vs Morton. The Governors are led by quarterback Tory Armstrong (919 yards passing) The other matchup is at East Chicago Central with Gary West Side hosting Lowell. The Cougars lead by Ohio State recruit Lonnie Johnson (33 receptions 691 yards and 13 touchdowns) and JonVea Johnson (50 receptions 950 yards and 19 touchdowns) are explosive as they come. Can they stop the running game of George Fields (1183 yards) and the Red Devils

FAVORITE: Morton, The Governors have won four in a row. Lowell poses a big threat after being added this season.

DARKHORSE: West Side and East Chicago Central.

Kankakee Valley (4-5) at New Prairie (9-0)

SB Riley (5-4) at Plymouth (7-2)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: There are several to pick from. St Joe's led by quarterback Matt Monserez traveling to Hobart to take on outstanding DE Nick Bokun and the Brickies. KV heading north to take on the Russ Radtke coached New Prairie Cougars. The other one is quarterback Daigen Morgan and SB Riley traveling to Plymouth. The Wildcats also have explosive running back Thomas Capers.

FAVORITE: New Prairie's record or Saint Joseph's history of success

DARKHORSE: Riley with some great athletes and Plymouth always seems to thrive come tourney time

MY PICK: Plymouth- Not sure why just gut instinct. p> SECTIONAL 19

NorthWood (4-5) at East Noble (7-2)

Leo (9-0) at Wawasee (5-4)

DeKalb (0-9) at Angola (5-4)

FW Dwenger (6-3) at Northridge (7-2)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: Dwenger at Northridge. The powerhouse Saints are back led by quarterback Mike Fiacable who has recovered nicely from a torn ACL that kept him out last season. He has a preferred walk on offer from Notre Dame. Keenan Centilvre and Ryan Wattercutter are also standouts for Dwenger. Coach Tom Wogoman has turned around the program in his first season at Northridge

FAVORITE: Leo is unscathed at 9-0 and have a huge line led by Logan Glaze. East Noble has a powerful running game

DARKHORSE: Dwenger a darkhorse. Seriously!!!!

MY PICK: Leo- Coach Jared Sauder and the Lions prevail with some close calls.


Columbia City (3-6) at Norwell (4-5)

Marion (1-8) at Jay County (6-3)

Frankfort (4-5) at Logansport (3-6)

New Haven (8-1) at FW South (3-6)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: New Haven at FW South. A great matchup will be New Haven receiver Jordan Hogue ( 39 receptions 752 yards and 12 touchdowns) vs IU cornerback recruit Donovan Clark.


DARKHORSE: Jay County. They have put together a nice year at 6-3

MY PICK: New Haven- They should be a heavy favorite


New Palestine (9-0) at Pendleton Heights (4-5)

Muncie South (1-8) at New Castle (0-9)

Beech Grove (2-7) at Mt Vernon (7-2)

Greenfield (1-8) at Muncie Central (6-3)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: New Palestine vs Pendleton Heights would be the closest thing to a good first round matchup. Dragon quarterback Blake Luker (1855 yards and 23 tds) has put up big numbers for first year coach Kyle Ralph.
FAVORITE: New Palestine

DARKHORSE:Mt Vernon and Muncie Central. Both teams will be formidable threats to New Palestine

MY PICK: Mt Vernon- The Marauders lost 20-0 in week 9 to New Palestine. Can they reverse their fortunes in three weeks.


Roncalli (6-3) at Mooresville (1-8)

Plainfield (4-5) at Lebanon (7-2)

Danville (2-7) at Northwest (1-8)

Chatard (6-3) at Northview (7-2)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: Chatard at Northview. The Knights under first year coach Mark Raetz have put together a nice season and feature a balanced running game.
FAVORITE: Chatard, They have won a zillion state titles. They have two outstanding junior tackles in Matt McCann and Adam Solomon.

DARKHORSE: Lebanon. Coach Kent Wright has an outstanding signal caller in Isaac Harker.
MY PICK: Chatard, The Trojans will battle long time rival Roncalli in the title game. The Rebels feature some really tough linemen in Nick Neu, Hank Kiesel and Cal Scifres. The Trojans bested the Rebels 35-20 in week three.


Franklin County (3-6) at Shelbyville (4-5)

East Central (3-6) at Connersville (2-7)

Columbus East (9-0) at Madison (4-5)

South Dearborn (0-9) at Greenwood (4-5)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: Not sure there is one with only one team sporting a winning record. East Central vs Connersville could be a competitive game.

FAVORITE: Columbus East, The Olympians have talented running back Markell Jones (1531 yards 27 touchdowns), no one else does.

DARKHORSE: Everyone else

MY PICK: Columbus East. This is like a party where only one team got the invitation.


Owen Valley (5-4) at Reitz (6-3)

Boonville (1-8) at Silver Creek (3-6)

Seymour (0-9) at Evansville Central (6-3)

Jasper (8-1) at Evansville Harrison (1-7)

KEY FIRST ROUND MATCHUP: Reitz vs Owen Valley, The Panthers of Reitz have some big play weapons in quarterback Austin Reagan, receiver Jordan Summers, running back Maalik Higgins and running back De'Wayne Esters.
FAVORITE: Jasper, The Wildcats are led by junior quarterback Nolan Ahrens son of head Coach Tony Ahrens
DARKHORSE: Evansville Central. The Bears have running back Avion Sullivan (1849 yards and 25 touchdowns) and quarterback Austin Fuchs
