PREVIEW 2014: Southport Cardinals
The Cardinals and Coach Bill Peebles captured their first sectional title in 2013. Southport went 11-0 before falling to Center Grove in the 6A Regional. Peebles will have to replace a slew of offensive skill players in WR Tim Jewell, WR Klayton Byrd, RB Chinoya Phiri, and RB Christian Perry.
Close call here but DE/OLB Dondaycee Milbrook is the man. Last season the D1 prospect had 43 tackles including 14 for loss.
Senior Kevin Wagner and junior Malik Davis will have a chance to step up and put up huge numbers at running back.
QB Luke Johnston burst on the scene as a sophomore completing 207 of 330 passes for 2696 yards and 29 touchdowns. Johnston should see his recruiting pick up soon.
SCOUTING THE: CARDINALS POSITION BY POSITION
Junior QB Luke Johnston at 6-4, 175 is an outstanding talent who should have another great season.
The Cardinals will have to rebuild here around Kevin Wagner and Malik Davis.

Leading the way in the Cardinals three man front is Dondaycee Milbrook. Also back is the other DE John Brown (20 tackles). Evan Higgs and Kyle Williams may also see time on the DL.
Three of five are back at linebacker. OLB Kevin Woods (53 tackles), ILB Connor Moore (47 tackles) and ILB Donovan Milbrook (33 tackles) are all returning starters.
Senior safety Darius Bryant is the leading returning tackler who returns. Look out for sophomore Jalen Williams.
The Cardinals will again be very competitive in 2014. Luke Johnston and the passing game should again flex their muscles and put up huge numbers. Offensively a key will be youngsters stepping up at running back. Six starters returning from a stout defense will be key.
