Maynard's Offer List Grows

Decatur Central (Ind.) offensive tackle Trent Maynard picked up his first Big Ten offer recently and talks about that and how his camp season went here.

Decatur Central's rising junior offensive tackle Trent Maynard is now at two offers as Illinois joined Cincinnati on his list recently.

While the Illini had previously been in contact with the 6-foot-5, 280-pound prospect, the offer still was somewhat unexpected.

"It's pretty crazy how they offered me," he said. "During the Winter, we talked and they wanted me to come down for a basketball game, but the day of the game, there was a huge snowstorm, so I wasn't able to go. After that, I hadn't talked to them much,, but the first couple weeks of summer, at practice, Coach Dixson told me Illinois offered and to call Coach Ricker."

While then-offensive line coach A.J. Ricker has now moved on to Missouri, Maynard remains in contact and hopes to visit Champaign soon.

"I called them and we talked about me coming down there for camp some time, but I was busy with Vanderbilt and Notre Dame ones so we talked about coming down late July if possible and they said they'd work something out."

Those other two camps allowed Maynard to catch the eye of the Commodores and Fighting Irish.

"When I went to Vanderbilt, after camp, I talked to Coach Lightner, and he said if it were up to him, he would have offered me on the spot. He said he would talk to the other coaches once they finished up their week of camps and go from there. They said they'd call the week after, but I haven't heard from them since camp, so that's still in question."

"They're still my favorite school," Maynard added, "and I'd love to play in the SEC and play for them."

As for Notre Dame, the Irish Invasion camp brought about a new position, but he adjusted quickly.

"At camp, they told me I did good throughout camp and they stopped and gave me some lessons because I played left guard, and I never played there before, so I talked to the coaches and they said stay in touch and get back to campus for a visit."

Maynard says he is also hearing from Indiana among other schools currently.
